"In the end, someone (maybe Jon Chey at Irrational Games Australia) made the executive decision that we needed to suck up the extra work and make a map," notes technical director Chris Kline. Designers had several concerns - what happens if the helpful bot gets stuck in a scrap with enemies? - but the player's familiarity with a plain ol' map dealt the death blow. If that seems maddeningly simple, consider "Nav-Bot," a mechanical fellow intended to guide lost players through BioShock's city of Rapture. And how would said swoop combat arguments about the unrealistic, accelerated rate of weapon malfunction? An in-game audio log "would have explained that as part of their takeover, the Many had released a special corrosive gas into the Von Braun that damaged weapons but was harmless to organic creatures." Today, the remaster got an exciting new teaser trailer in the wake of its eventual release. System Shock Remastered takes this classic adventure and upgrades it with the help of cutting-edge Unreal Engine capabilities. In System Shock, you’ll take on the role of a resourceful hacker as you explore and survive the terrors of Citadel Station brought on by a rogue AI named SHODAN.

"In one fell 30-second swoop, we could have prevented about 80 percent of the complaints, or at least redirected them toward Xerxes and the Many, and away from the development team," says designer Dorian Hart on the infamous ire directed at System Shock 2's degrading weaponry. System Shock follows the first-person exploits of a nameless hacker, charged with disabling a malevolent AI system named Shodan. We’ve gathered a team of industry veterans from games like Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect, and BioShock to create a faithful reboot of the classic game we all know and love.

In an update posted today, Shawn Elliott examines five features that were cut from Irrational's beloved pair of ' Shocks. A more grungy, mechanical, sci-fi inspired setting may prove to be a fun twist on what is expected to come from a BioShock location.Irrational Games' new community-oriented website continues to impress us with its candid peeks at the inner workings of the studio and interesting developments that may have eluded the public eye. A System Shock remake has been shown off in recent years, with the setting appearing to be extremely spooky and a solid update on the claustrophobic feel of the original. With modern gaming technology allowing developers to realize their vision more than ever, and creepy experiences like Resident Evil Villageand The Last of Us 2 available, a new BioShock will need to work extra hard to stand out. The original BioShock was lauded for its interesting setting and often uncomfortable atmosphere that surrounded the player, truly immersing gamers into a strange world under the sea, though many strong settings have appeared since. There have been plenty of other franchises that incorporated these titles' ideas into their own design, and have arguably made their mechanics even better.

The gaming landscape has changed so much since the first BioShock game, and even moreso since System Shock hit the scene. A fresh new spin needs to be brought to the table, and System Shock may hold the answer to this question. The new BioShockcan't simply retread Rapture or Columbia as its setting, especially after such a lengthy absence from the gaming world. Now, with a new BioShock rumored to make its worldwide debut in a matter of days, it would be poetic for the franchise to once again look to its predecessor for guidance. The game's careful attention to detail and clever storytelling can be seen sprinkling into other franchises over the years, with Dead Space being just one example. In the same way that System Shock had an undeniable impact on the industry, BioShock left its own mark in many ways. The influence of System Shock can easily be seen on BioShock's sleeves, essentially bringing that same experience but this time in an underwater setting. From its level design, sense of atmosphere, and overall progression, these games have gone on to change the way many developers approach their own projects. As stated, System Shock has its place in gaming history as a highly influential game in a multitude of areas.
